74th EAAP Annual Meeting

A delegation from Jeju National University recently returned from an overseas business trip to Lyon, France, where they attended the 74th European Association for Animal Science (EAAP) Annual Meeting. The 10-day event, held from August 25 to September 3, 2023, brought together experts in the field of animal science from around the world.

Led by  Prof. Taesun Min along with graduate students Elena Smirnova and Anjana Sureshbabu, the team represented the Department of Animal Biotechnology under the Subtropical Horticultural Industry Research Institute. Their attendance at the EAAP conference provided a platform for international collaboration and knowledge exchange.

The delegation presented groundbreaking research findings on various topics. Notably, they highlighted their work on 3D cell culture systems, which offer a more natural environment for studying human and animal diseases (Elena Smirnova). This innovative approach has the potential to revolutionize disease research and reduce the need for animal experiments, thus aligning with ethical and sustainable research practices.

Another key area of their research focused on the use of Citrus unshiu peel and Curcumin nanospheres to enhance pig growth performance (Anjana Sureshbabu). This research, alongside the 3D cell culture system, garnered significant attention and could have a profound impact on the livestock and agricultural sectors.

The conference facilitated networking opportunities with experts from various countries an d institutions. These connections have the potential to lead to collaborations, joint research plans, and partnerships with international institutions, particularly in the realm of 3D cell culture systems.

Participation in the EAAP Annual Conference has opened doors to future collaborations, research partnerships, and international funding opportunities, contributing to the advancement of Jeju National University’s goals and plans.

The 74th EAAP Annual Conference featured distinguished speakers such as Dr. G. Van Duinkerken, Dr. Sandrine SKIBA-CASSY, and Dr. Eveline Ibeagha-Awemu, who shared insights into the latest developments in animal science.

This overseas business trip underscored Jeju National University’s commitment to international collaboration, knowledge sharing, and global advancements in the fields of animal science and sustainable agriculture.
